The sixth and final meeting of our project took place in Spain. In Calatayud (Aragón) from the 7th to the 12th of April 2014, over 70 people from our six partner countries gathered to finish the project we have developed and experienced together for two years.
On the 7th of April, Monday, we welcomed our partners at Madrid airport and headed immediately to Calatayud.
On the 8th of April our school, all the 700 students and teachers, welcomed our guests waving their homeland flags and playing the European anthem as they were walking through the decorated corridors of the school building. it was a very emotional moment. After 1 hour of school show we showed them our "Comenius corner" and played a presentation on Spain and Spanish art, landscapes, traditions, etc. Welcome speech, gift sharing, coffee break and the 650people mosaic of our logo in the playground. After that, we visited the bullring and took some practice on bullfighting without a bull, of course.
In the afternoon we took some dance lessons( Jotas and flamenco)
On the 9th of April, we visited Zaragoza, the capital city of Aragón and the 5th largest city in Spain. We visited the former muslim palace of LA Aljafería, the Pilar Cathedral, The La Seo Cathedral and Zaragoza city centre. In the afternoon we had some frre time in Calatayud.
On the 10th of April we attended a reception with the Mayor of Calatayud. We had a sightseeing in Calatayud and the students´ photo exhibition on traditions was inaugurated at the Calatayud museum.
In the afternoon a great European gala was held at the Capitol theatre of Calatayud. It was an open show where over 550 people from the town could share with us our experience in this project. We watched a photographic review of the meetings and there was a show of different Spanish traditions: Cabezudos, Semana Santa ( Nazarenos and drum groups), jotas, dance de las cintas, medieval festival, etc.
After the gala we went to a square which was inaugurated with the name "Plaza de Europa" Europe Square as a memory of our project. A big stone sculpture based on the myth of Europa raped by Zeus was also exposed for the first time on that very place.
In the evening, the farewell dinner and certificate giving was a special moment.
On the 11th of April, we visited the natural park an monument "El monasterio de Piedra" it is a wonderful place were there is an ancient monastery sorrounded by a natural park, in which you can see a river, high watrfalls, fish, many sorts of trees, cliffs, etc. We also attended a falconery show there after visiting the monastery itself.
On the 12th, we took our friends to Madrid. Some had to leave early and some could walk for three hours in the city. We visited "El museo de Prado" and walked around the Royal Palace. After that, all of our partners left our our country.
We miss them from that very moment. An we hope we can meet again soon.
